Bicentennial Celebration : Marshall, MO CPC

In addition to a banner in front of our church (on one of the busiest streets in Marshall, across from the high school) which reads:  Cumberland Presbyterian Denomination, Celebrating 200 Years, 1810-2010, the Marshall Cumberland Presbyterian Church is celebrating the Bicentennial with a variety of activities:

On January 31st, the Bicentennial Celebration will include:

  • guest speaker, Bob Watkins, from the Missions Ministry Team;
  • a reader's play "They Accepted the Challenge;"
  • special music by several different groups;
  • a presentation on major Cumberland ministries (Bethel University, CP Children's Home, Memphis Theological Seminary, the birthplace cabin, Missionaries serving around the world);
  • recognition of 50-year members during church as well;
  • a dinner after worship, a global missions update from Bob Watkins;
  • a trivia game "Who Wants to Be A Cumberland Presbyterian"

On Thursday, February 4th, we will have a prayer meeting at 7 p.m. which will include a short narration and skit depicting the events at Dickson, TN.  After the service we will share a special birthday cake which has a likeness of the birthplace cabin on it.

Both the Sunday and Thursday service will include people dressed in period costumes.  We will give out CP magnets, and specially printed pencils to commemorate the occasion....and over 80 orders have been placed for special CP logo clothing items we designed for this occasion.  Men and women will be asked to sit on separate sides of the sanctuary on Sunday morning as they often did in "the old days."

We will have one of our members...a professional photographer...record some of the festivities.
